f. Relationship
with Partners:
As at now, our only partners are local primary schools we work
with. The schools through their various administrative coresassist us to organize
back to school campaigns with our beneficiaries, they follow up our
beneficiaries and help us get reports of their performance, challenges and they
make proposals.
II.
Background and Justification of the Project:
a Context
and Rationale:
The Bui
Division of the Northwest Region is one of the 58 Divisions or Departments in the
Cameroon Administrative setup. It is subdivided into 7 subdivisions. The department covers an area of
2,297 km² and has a total population of over 500,000.The capital of the
department lies at Kumbo which is one of the largest sub towns
in the Northwest Region. More than 70% of the population is essentially rural. The
dominant religions are Christianity and Islam. The most prevailing activity is
farming and most parents depend on for subsistence, healthcare and the
education of their children.
b.
Problem to be Resolved:
In
our target areas, over 70% of the children don’t know how to brush their teeth
and wash their hands talk less of having the materials that can help them
carryout these activities. We are deeply concern about the health of these
children as most of them are being contaminated with diseases like cholera,
typhoid which seriously affect them in their teaching and learning process
simply because of poor hygiene practice.
How
the Need was Identified:
We got information through an intentional
survey where we used questionnaires to get satisfactory and accurate responses
fromclass teachers, head teachers, parents and guardians, as well as verbal
discussions with some of our beneficiaries.
c.
Involvement of the Beneficiaries in the Program:
During our survey and visits to
schools, we talked with some of our beneficiaries who could express themselves
boldly and clearly to obtain some strategic information that we needed. We
asked questions and they gave answers which helped us to conceive this document.
d.
Our Suitability to Execute the Program:
For the past 2 academic years, we have made efforts to
sponsor a few children already only from members’ sacrificial contributions
because of our commitment to our purpose. We believe that our evident efforts
on the field make us apt and qualified to properly, successfully and
transparently carryout out this program with the desired impact.
